Skills 4 Work

About Us

Latest update on the Competenz and Skills4Work organisation change

As you may already know a number of roles and responsibilities in Skills4Work are transferring back to Competenz. We are pleased to confirm that we’re on track to complete the transfer of functions and staff by June 1, which is a reflection of the positive way that both parties are working together.

The functions, and associated staff, that are transferring to Competenz are core parts of business for an ITO rather than a training provider. They include:

  • Field support for industry
  • Corporate training support
  • Assessor management functions
  • Customer service centre and course booking
  • Relationship database management
  • Careers promotion (Tools4Work)
  • Training resource development

The new structure will provide certainty around the roles of the two organisations and ensure compliance with the Industry Training Act and other current legislation.

While remaining independent, both organisations remain committed to fostering a working relationship of mutual benefit. Skills4Work will focus on developing its capabilities as a training provider in the manufacturing, food and engineering sectors, as well as expanding its training outputs with Competenz through a renegotiated provider contract.

We are committed to managing the transition quickly and collaboratively to ensure it does not impact on the services we provide to our customers and to avoid any duplication of services after it is complete.

We will post regular updates on this site to help keep customers informed. If you have any specific questions please feel free to contact us on 0800 275 455 (Skills4Work) and 09 526 1800 (Competenz), or click here to email Skills4Work or here to email Competenz.

Separation agreement – Frequently asked questions

1.      Why is the separation happening?

  • When Skills4Work was set up in 2006, the division of services and ultimate structure of the organisations left both Skills4Work and Competenz open to potential conflicts of interest with each other and other providers.
  • The new structure removes the potential conflicts and will also ensure both parties comply with the Industry Training Act and other current legislation.

2.      Do I need to do anything?

  • For stakeholders such as trainees, employers and apprentices, the situation is business as usual – these groups won’t have to do anything. The only difference will be in which organisation provides the training service to them. For specifics, please refer to the following questions.

3.      I have a training agreement with Competenz/Skills4Work. What will happen to this?

  • Competenz will honour any existing training agreements made on its behalf by Skills4Work.

4.      I am waiting for my annual training agreement with Competenz/Skills4Work. What will happen to this?

  • These customers should discuss this directly with their current Skills4Work account manager up until 1 June. After that date, these will be handled by Competenz.

5.      I am a National Account. Who’s going to look after me?

  • This function will transfer back to Competenz from 1 June onwards.
  • If Skills4Work are currently training a particular company’s employees, Skills4Work will continue with the training service provided as for the current training agreement.

6.      Who will be managing corporate training contracts/corporate deals?

  • Competenz will authorise new contracts that will cover the period from 1st April 2008 until the end of the year. We’ll keep you informed as to what happens to contracts for after that period.

7.       I am a/have an ATNZ Premier Apprentice (Group) Plan or         Accelerator Plan Apprentice.

  • ATNZ Premier Apprentice (Group) Plan and Accelerator Plan Apprentices will still deal with Skills4Work.
  • There may, however, be some changes to the training specialist who looks after the apprentice/customer as a result of the separation. We’ll make this clear to all customers later this month.

8.      I am a/have a Base Plan Apprentice.

  • Base Plan Apprentices will be managed by Competenz from 1 June.
  • There will, however, be some changes to the people who look after these apprentices/customers as a result of the separation. We’ll confirm your contact person later this month.

9.      Where and who will be giving me progress reports on my learners?

  • Both organisations will be providing information to their companies/learners depending on services provided.
  • Apprentices, learners and companies will be able to access information through web-based portals/customer services or local personnel as per the current arrangement.

10.  What will be happening with assessors and assessor management?

  • Competenz will handle assessor management and registrations.
